Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a form of energy healing that can benefit and be learned by everyone. It can be used on one’s self, other people, animals, plants, and even Mother Earth. It works on all levels: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. The Reiki practitioner acts as a conduit by drawing the Reiki energy in through the crown of her head and letting it flow out through her hands and into the person receiving the healing. The practitioner often lightly touches the person being be treated, but this kind of healing can also be performed by holding the hands 6-18 inches away or even sending it distantly hundreds of miles or even around the world using distant healing techniques. Reiki is not massage, and it is not a religious practice. It can be used in conjunction with modern medicine, alternative therapies, or on its own.
